Internet speed is becoming increasingly more necessary with how much people use their phones and the internet as a whole, whether it be for work, a hobby or good old entertainment.
Silver Star is a fiber internet provider that serves western Wyoming, Eastern and Western Idaho areas. It is rolling out a brand-new plan for the Teton Valley beginning in 2026 with efforts to increase internet speeds and offer discounted rates to both new and existing customers.
Jason Nelson is the area vice president of Silver Star in East Idaho, and Christian Nelson is the public relations specialist.
“For the 2026 build season, we’re going to take what was going to be a five-year build plan, and try to cram that into one year,” Jason said. “We want to get fiber out to everyone in the Teton Valley area. It’s something that we have been working on for the last few years.”
Sixty percent of Silver Star’s customers in the Teton Valley currently have fiber, so this new plan targets the other 40%.
“Fiber’s the way of the future for sure,” Jason said. “The thing that’s really awesome about fiber is that we haven’t been able to identify what the cap is and how much can be transmitted across it.”
“Compared to other options, it’s just the fastest and the most reliable,” Christian said. “No matter what your need is, it is the best option.”
Jason tells people the biggest factor in being able to pull off the company’s new project is the community support the company receives.
“With their support, we have the resources and the skillset to be able to do it,” he said.
“This is a product that we believe in,” Christian said. “We really want everyone to have access to it because we want access to it. It just makes the quality of life in the community better.”
