REXBURG— A new small business is bringing chocolate covered sweets and treats to Rexburg. After 10 years of preparation and hard work, Chocolate Plunge officially opened on Jan. 19.
Donna Waite is the mastermind behind Chocolate Plunge. After seeing banana bars on Balboa Island in California, Waite made her dream of opening a chocolate treat shop a reality with the help of her nephew, Ty Walker.
“I was sitting in Florida with Ty last year,” Waite said, “we were on vacation together. And I just said, ‘You know, Ty, I can still do this dream. And I'm going to do it.’ And he said, ‘Can I be your partner?’ And I said, ‘Sure, why not? Let's do it together.’”
With the addition of Kevin Heebner, the trio started to make what once was a thought come to life.
Chocolate Plunge offers a variety of tasty treats such as frozen chocolate covered bananas, and one of their most popular items, the Strawberry Falls.
“It’s a cup of nice fresh strawberries. We put it underneath our chocolate fountain that we brought in from Italy,” Walker said. “Amazing, just milk chocolate, pure milk chocolate comes out of that, pure goodness. And you can put a little topping on over the top of those strawberries and then end it with a drizzle.”
Customers can also select from a variety of ice cream bars and sandwiches that are then dipped in melted chocolate and coated with a variety of toppings such as coconut, sprinkles, M&M’s and even peanut butter and jelly.
In an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio, Waite, Walker and Heebner said their favorite part about opening Chocolate Plunge is to see the smiling faces and returning customers come in day after day.
“Just the joy of being of service in this community to be able to bring a place where people can come together and enjoy a dessert and a treat, 20 minutes here, 10 minutes here, and or taking on the road with them to really come together and just to be a part of this community is really a joy,” Waite said. “It's a great community. This is home.”
Chocolate Plunge is open Monday through Saturday and is located at 155 W Main St. in the Zion’s Bank shopping center. You can find more information on their Facebook and Instagram.
