The Cathedral Voices and the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra are preparing for their spring concert on May 3 at the Center Theater.
Laura Huckin, the choir’s artistic director and conductor, said this year’s performance is premiering music from 18-year-old Vonn Vanier.
“Our spring concert is a symphonic world premier celebrating a local talent,” Huckin said. “A young composer who is only 18 years old and has composed this beautiful work inspired by the landscape of Jackson Hole.”
Huckin also said the concert is free, but a $10 minimum donation is encouraged. Donations will be accepted at the door, allowing payments with cash, card or Venmo. She said the concert isn’t exclusive to those who can attend in person because there will also be a live stream.
“So those that are not able to travel the distance to be here in person, they can still connect with us,” Huckin said.
Huckin said this year’s performance will be different than any of their past performances.
“I will say that this concert, unlike ones we’ve done in the past, it is far from your average choral concert, and it is far from your average symphony or orchestral performance,” Huckin said. “The music is moving and stunning. There are some unique instruments that will be showcased.”
Huckin said she hopes the music helps audience members take away feelings of hope, joy and acceptance of feelings that humans need to work through rather than dwell on.
“We have to acknowledge the difficult emotions in life, but we shouldn’t dwell on them,” Huckin said. “And it’s our responsibility to rise above that.”
