BYU football and Head Coach Kalani Sitake announced 19 new high school signees on the first day of the December early signing period.

On Wednesday, 19 recruits made their BYU commitment official by signing with the program.

“I’m excited about the type of playmakers that we brought on the program, and I mean a lot of them we already knew about and so we are really fired up about the talent that’s coming in and the fit they are to our program,” Sitake said.

More signees may be announced later, but these 19 players represent the top-ranked recruiting class in school history, coming in at No. 20 nationally and No. 2 in the Big 12, according to a news release from BYU football.

The class includes 10 offensive players and nine defensive players, hailing from various parts of the country.

Headlining the entire class is quarterback Ryder Lyons. He is one of the highest rated recruits in the history of the program and the top ranked recruit under the direction of Sitake. He was the California Gatorade Player of the Year in 2024 and was ranked No. 35 on ESPN’s Top 300 Recruits.

Lyons gave cougar fans a scare, initially stating he wouldn’t be signing on Wednesday. He ended up signing later in the day, giving BYU an elite quarterback room to work with in Lyons and Bachmeier.

“It’s not a negative. I mean if anything it’s positive,” said Offensive Coordinator Aaron Roderick. “Most quarterbacks want to go to a place where there’s been a history of good quarterback play, especially in recent history. So, I haven’t had anybody say, ‘I don’t want to, I’m not interested in BYU because you’re starting a freshman.’ That has not come up yet.”

More recruits will be signed during the offseason in February, but BYU seems to be in good position to be national competitors for several years to come.

“The sky’s the limit for this class,” Sitake said. “We can do some really great things with it. I feel like we’ve got a great thing going, we just need to keep adding to the system, and these guys fit exactly what we’re looking for – on and off the field.”
