The Choose Your Love tour is going to Montana and Alberta, Canada, and will hold its third performance of the tour tomorrow night.
Randall Kempton, director of Choral Activities and director of the Collegiate Singers and Vocal Union, says the theme of the show revolves around love.
“Love, love of each other, love of family, love of God. And we’re looking forward to sharing that with folks in Canada and Montana,” he said.
The last four shows on the tour will take place in different cities in Alberta, Canada, in Cardston, Lethbridge, Edmonton and Calgary.
The show will feature a mix of music, such as classical chorus or hymns, popular a cappella, musical theater, jazz and barbershop.
“And all of those things combine together to tell a story that, no matter really who you are, we all need love, and we all need to give love,” Kempton said. “Not just receive it, but we also need to give love, to each other, to our country, to God, to our home, our family.”
Kempton hopes the combination of different genres and styles of music will reach everyone in the audience.
“I wanted to take the audience on an emotional journey,” Kempton said. “I like to take audiences to highs, lows, everything in between, so that you leave feeling something.”
Kempton says the last time the Collegiate Singers and Vocal Union traveled together was on a tour to Brazil about 25 years ago, but this is the first time since he’s been leading the groups that the university’s combined them into a tour.
In addition to the two groups, a select few musical theatre students will travel on the tour.
Kempton says the traveling groups find moments small and large that provide a fun and unique experience for the students.
“But really, the singing with the students, you know, making a successful concert and having the audience really respond, those are really fulfilling moments,” Kempton said.
