Rexburg will hold a Women in Business and Leadership event on Tuesday, June 10.
Renae Oswald is the keynote speaker for the event. She began her business career after leaving her nursing job to help with her husband’s automotive repair shop in Idaho Falls. She now wants to help guide entrepreneurs in a productive direction.
“I feel truly blessed, for a lack of better words, in the fact that, I feel like I personally have been prepared with the things that have happened in my life to be at this point,” Oswald said. “Today to be speaking to you, to be able to have the ear of these women who are giving up their time to come and listen to me. And I hope that as we all go throughout lives that is where we’re all trying to lean toward is just, we’re doing the best that we can.”
Oswald said one thing she valued learning was focusing on what she could improve on rather than focusing on other people’s faults.
“It liberated me because I really was miserable waiting for everybody else to behave in the way I thought that they should behave,” Oswald said. “Once I could turn that mirror around and say the only person you have control over is you and how you respond to these things and how clear you get in the beginning, so you’re not frustrated in the end.”
Oswald reflected on the saying “Just go for it,” and said it is easy to be hesitant about an idea, but it’s also important to think about the good that would happen from starting something new.
“At some point, overthinking this isn’t going to change anything,” Oswald said. "And I felt that way with my podcast. I’m a registered nurse. I’ve been in a hospital for 27 years. I don’t know anything about podcasting, but I learned. I went out there, I taught myself.”
