Ben Cosgrove is a musician inspired by geography and environments. He will perform live in Ashton for the opening of Warm River Studio on May 1 at 7 p.m.
Warm River Studio will cover the cost of the event so patrons can come and enjoy the studio’s art and Cosgrove’s musical stylings free of charge.
The art exhibit will include photos taken by the gallery’s owner Ellen Lynch.
Though Cosgrove doesn’t sing, he says his concerts have been compared to those of singer-songwriters because he likes to interact with the audience.
“I kind of been told that me concert style is much more like a, I behave like a singer-songwriter even though I don’t sing,” said Cosgrove. “So there’s a lot of storytelling involved and I chat with the audience and kind give context for what all these songs are about because they’re all instrumental.”
Cosgrove says he finds inspiration in his surroundings and attempts to depict how it makes him feel though music.
“It’s usually more trying to identify what my experience, my subjective impression of this space was,” Cosgrove said. “How it affected me and then try to recreate something of what that was like by putting some notes together.”
Lynch says she approaches her photography in a similar way.
“It’s very much how I approach photography,” said Lynch “That I want people to experience what I experienced.”
