The Rexburg community and BYU-Idaho students are invited to the Come to Roost event this weekend at the Camas Wildlife Refuge.

It's an opportunity for people to go and learn about different species of birds, including the main attraction, which are bald eagles.

"This one, you're actually going to see the bald eagles come in for roost for the year," said Mikayla Khilobok, president of the Fisheries, Range and Wildlife Society at BYU-Idaho. "They're just really cool birds and you get to see dozens of them come in and start finding their nests."

Spotting scopes will be set up for birdwatching and will be available and free to use for anyone in attendance.

Members of the wildlife society will help run the event as volunteers, but the event isn't only for the wildlife volunteers.

"Anybody is welcome," Khilobok said. "The more students that go the better. If you like watching birds or specifically like bald eagles, perfect."

There have been sightings of several different types of eagles, including golden and bald eagles and their young.

"It's just really cool overall to be out there even in this cold weather and see all of the birds that just thrive in this environment during this time of year," Khilobok said. "I think everyone should keep an eye out for the birds. It's really cool."

Come to Roost will happen at the Camas Wildlife Refuge, which is located in Hamer, Idaho, less than an hour west/northwest of Rexburg. Hot cocoa will be served during the event and there is a trail attendees can walk on to view wildlife in different areas.

The event will begin this Saturday at 5 p.m.
