Grab your paintbrush and get ready to immerse yourself into the world of Japanese Notan art at The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho’s Community Day.
Chloe O’Laughlin is the communications director for the museum and has been working hard to bring the event to life for another consecutive year. The Community Day event has been going on every year for a very long time, and O’Laughlin says it’s the museum’s way of giving back to the community that supports them.
“I love the opportunity to work for the community in the way that the museum gives back,” she said. “And this is one of those events that’s totally free, and we’re doing it because we love who we serve.”
As you walk into the museum for the free event, you will be transported into a world of creativity, greeted with several different activities and exhibits to fill your day with beautiful art.
There is a kids studio that includes books, art supplies, blocks and a classroom where visitors can create their art projects. The projects are available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For those who choose to do the art project, they will immerse themselves into a style of art called Japanese Notan art, a design concept usually done in black and white.
“You're going to see a lot of repeating patterns, floral patterns, and it plays with negative space,” O’Laughlin said. “So, it’s sort of a conversation about light and dark and how not only do they play off of each other, but they benefit each other.”
The museum is inviting everyone to attend and dive into the world of art for free tomorrow.
“Our community days are unique, where it’s open for everyone,” O’Laughlin said. “It’s a family event, it’s for individuals, so if you don’t have family, that’s fine. Come and enjoy the art project by yourself. Bring your friends, and, like I said before, it’s totally free.”
