Becca Gibb grew up watching cooking shows, but she never expected to be behind the camera preparing dishes for the world's best chefs.

“MasterChef” is a cooking competition show where home cooks with different cooking abilities are put to the test with cooking challenges judged by distinguished judges who eliminate the contestants until one remains and receives the title of Master chef.

Growing up, Gibb’s mother would have a meal prepared every day for the family to eat together. Gibb noticed the joy that her family felt as they sat at the table together and enjoyed a delicious meal and she began to love food and love preparing it.

Gibb loved watching the different cooking competition shows that aired on TV, but it wasn’t until she was enrolled in a culinary program that she ever considered being on one herself. Gibb decided to apply to be on “MasterChef.”

The decision to apply to be on the show was an easy one for Gibb. She felt inspired by God and decided that she should apply. She didn’t hesitate to follow this revelation. She had learned in her life that when God inspires you to do something, the only thing left to do is act.

“I guess for me, when I have thoughts like that, I have learned to know that it's from my Father in Heaven and that I should act on it sooner rather than later,” Gibb said.

After months of an audition process, Gibb was one of 40 selected to make her signature dish on camera. In the very first episode, Gibb is seen wearing a Christus necklace.

For Gibb, it was a big deal to be accepted onto the show and receive an apron, but it meant more to her to have a figure of Christ around her neck and to act as a representative of Him.

“I do know that for me, it felt really amazing to be in an environment that is not common for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be, but it felt so right for me to be there, and it felt so natural for me to be there and represent my Savior at the same time,” Gibb said. “I hope it helps. I hope people see it and look to Christ. But at the end of the day, it was really important for me that I was that representative of the Savior in that very unique and very public environment.”

Being on the show was not an easy thing for Gibb. The environment was very stressful competing against other amazing cooks, completing challenges in a short amount of time, and receiving criticism from some of the best chefs in the world. However, Gibb relied on the Savior to help her through it. She would often pray for peace and to do her very best. These prayers were answered, and Gibb was able to enjoy her experience on the show.

“Through my prayers and my desire to do the best that I could, I received so many tender mercies in the form of a clear mind, a peaceful heart and the ability to just be myself in a very stressful environment. That's what I would say was the biggest impact for me and the biggest blessing that I recognize that I received from my Heavenly Father through that experience is just being able to feel Him and His love,” said Gibb.

The show is currently running. To see Gibb, you can stream “MasterChef” on Hulu, or catch the next episode Wednesday on Fox.
