This past Saturday, BYU-Idaho students and members of the community took to the skies, as BYU-Idaho hosted its first-ever Kite Festival at the Upper Fields.

“So it’s just a time for people to come out and enjoy the nice weather and things like that, and kind of just get to know each other outside of classes and a typical, stuffy classroom that people are stuck in most of the day,” said Crystal Rodriguez, an event activities coordinator for Campus Life.

The event included cotton candy, snow cones and lemonade with the ticket that also got students a kite, which they were able to customize.

Rodriguez said there were more than 800 kites for people to fly.

“I think people—just for them to just come and relax and have a good time and take a break from homework, take a break from, from whatever is stressing you out and kind of just, get in tune with outdoors and yourself and your friends and whoever you want to bring along,” she said.

Rodriguez said Campus Life Activities is looking forward to more outdoor activities for students. She encourages them to take advantage of being outside.

“We’re excited for them to be here and we want them to enjoy everything Rexburg has to offer, and this is just one of them. And so there are options for them and we want them to know that we hear them out when they say they want outdoors events,” Rodriguez said.
