State Rep. Jon Weber represents District 34A, Madison County. Weber is the vice chair of the Revenue and Taxation Committee, a member of the Commerce and Human Resources Committee and a member of the Local Government Committee. Weber is now in Boise for the Idaho legislative session, which began today. Prior to the beginning, Weber shared expectations for the session with BYU-Idaho Radio. session

“It will be a year of belt tightening,” Weber said. “The state of Idaho requires a balanced budget, and we are firm in doing that, and we'll continue to do so. As we look at budgets, everything's on the table.”

While looking for a way to balance the budget some legislators may be looking to make cuts to essential services, Weber hopes this will not be the case.

“Law enforcement, emergency services, our roads and bridges, our water and sewer systems,” Weber said, “there's things like that, that are absolutely essential to the safety and the growth of our communities and our state. I certainly would hope that that is not on the table when we start looking at the cuts.”

Despite the intimidation of balancing the state budget, Weber takes pleasure in the work he has been elected to do.

“I always enjoy coming back to session to first do the work of the people, come back and meet as a legislature that can get the work done,” Weber said.
