Many in Rexburg have speculated on what stores will go in the old Walmart building in town. Earlier this year, Harbor Freight Tools announced it will be opening a store in part of the space. Harbor Freight is a fast-growing hardware store that first opened in Calabasas, Calif. in 1977.
James Frankos has worked at Harbor Freight for almost five years and is the new manager at the Rexburg location.
“We sell a wide range of different things, anywhere from kitchen things all the way to hand tools [and] toolboxes… It’s kind of your catch-all store for DIY projects and little construction jobs,” Frankos said.
Frankos said Harbor Freight has a team of analysts who decided Rexburg would be a good location to expand to. There is currently a Harbor Freight location in Idaho Falls, which receives a lot of customers, keeping the store extremely busy. To alleviate store traffic, Rexburg was their solution.
The Rexburg location will be hiring 30 new part-time and full-time employees. The application window is currently open on the Harbor Freight website at harborfreightjobs.com. Frankos said he has enjoyed working at Harbor Freight and as the company grows, so do the benefits.
“We’re continually improving not only the communities we are in, but also the associates that work for us. It has been really nice for me to be a part of that, as well as the flexibility from the company I have been given to still have an at-home life and continue my education,” Frankos said.
Harbor Freight Tools in Rexburg will have a soft opening Dec. 29, and a grand opening early 2021. The Rexburg location is 530 North 2nd East. More information about job opportunities and what Harbor Freight sells is available online at harborfreight.com.
