In an address at BYU-Idaho, Elder Neil L. Andersen, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, shared eternal truths about marriage, family and the blessings of temple worship. Elder Andersen reflected on his own experiences and teachings of the Church and emphasized the importance of seeking an eternal perspective amidst the complexities of life.
“My dear young friends, look to your future with faith and hope. Especially center your life in your faith in Jesus Christ and in the ordinances, covenants, and teachings of His holy house. See yourself for who you really are,” Elder Andersen said.
Elder Andersen highlighted the significance of the temple as a gateway to divine blessings. He stressed the vital role of marriage in Heavenly Father’s plan and urged young adults to seek companionship rooted in temple covenants. When quoting President Russel M. Nelson, he emphasized the impact of temple worship on strengthening faith, enhancing one’s understanding of God’s plan and finding solace in times of trial.
“Nothing will help you more to hold fast to the iron rod than worshipping in the temple as regularly as your circumstances permit. Nothing will protect you more as you encounter the world’s mists of darkness. Nothing will bolster your testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement or help you understand God’s magnificent plan more. Nothing will soothe your spirit more during times of pain. Nothing will open the heavens more. Nothing,” he said.
Throughout his talk, Elder Andersen shared the sacredness of family and the divine mandate to multiply and replenish the earth. Drawing from scriptures and personal anecdotes, he encouraged individuals to prayerfully consider the timing and extent of their family responsibilities, acknowledging personal circumstances that may be encountered.
“I plead with you, seek a worthy companion with whom you can be sealed in the temple. It will make all the difference. Yoi will be strengthened and guided,” he said.
In his closing remarks, Elder Andersen expressed his love and admiration for students, urging them to embrace their faith in Christ and find hope in the eternal promises of the gospel. He testified of Christ and the truthfulness of His gospel and left a message to students that he loves them as he believes their Heavenly Father does.
“As you’re considering these important questions of marriage and children, spend time in the house of the Lord. Go with a prayer and the concerns or questions you have in your heart. Answers will come and the heavens will open.”
