Summer is almost over and school is about to be in session. No more parties, no more staying up late and no more free time with friends. However, the summer lives on one more night with the Downtown Disco Back-to-School Party on Saturday in Idaho Falls.
The disco is hosted by The Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation as a way to give teenagers ages 14 to 18 one last celebration before heading back to school for the year.
The free event will have live music from DJ Rowdy, a popular DJ in the area, free pizza and drinks from Lucy’s Pizza and Pick Me Up, street games, free swag and a CD decorating contest.
“Come out and enjoy the time. It's just for a couple hours and it'll be a really fun time and a great way to meet new people and just to celebrate the end of summer,” said Courtney Hernandez the communication and event coordinator at Idaho Falls Downtown Development.
Due to the forecast, the event has been moved to the Downtown Event Center located on Park Ave. It starts at 8 p.m. and goes until 10.
Students must show some sort of ID to enter.
The event is part of The Idaho Falls Downtown Development Corporation’s effort to bring more teens to Downtown Idaho Falls. It is the first teen-only event from Downtown Development and they hope teens will feel more included downtown and know that there is a place for them.
“We just think it's really important to offer this event and to bring the teens downtown and give them something that's just for them so that they aren't feeling left out or anything like that,” Hernandez said. “We just really want everyone to feel welcome to downtown and want to come downtown.”
The event is sponsored by several local businesses including Idaho National Laboratory, Bank of Idaho, College of Eastern Idaho, The SnakeBite Restaurant and Downtown Bridal & Dress Shop.
