In his devotional address today titled “We are Creators and Builders,” Jeremy Hall invited BYU-Idaho students and staff to become creators and builders, remembering the words of Russell M. Nelson, the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who said, “We are to be creators in our own right—builders of an individual faith in God, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and faith in His Church.”

Hall is the financial reporting director at BYU-Idaho. In an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio, Hall talked about where he drew his inspiration for his address.

“I'll tell you where the inspiration did not come from. I knew that if I talked about accounting and the work I do every day, that people would fall asleep,” Hall said. “But I do have a hobby. I like to do woodworking, and I will talk a little bit about that as an introduction in my devotional. With woodworking, there's a lot of lessons, life lessons you can learn. But that led me naturally to being a creator and a builder.”

Hall shared in his devotional address that God gave people the earth to be creators.

“Our loving Heavenly Father gave us this planet to perform our creative work upon,” Hall said. “He didn't build us our houses or give us cars or tablets. He gave us raw materials to work with and time to do that work. And as we create and build and work to solve the important problems of our day, we are made better.”

In his own life, Hall said he strives to become a creator daily in his journey to creating a celestial family.

“If we're all gentle, if we're all kind, if we're all changing, forgiving, then we can build a celestial family,” Hall said. “Eventually we will get there. That's my number one creative endeavor in this life.”

Hall said that people are to become builders and creators to qualify for the blessings of heaven that God gives individuals who put their faith in Him.

“We are to be creators in our own right, builders of an individual faith in God, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and faith in his Church,” Hall said. “We are to build families and be sealed in holy temples. We are to build the Church and kingdom of God upon the earth. We are to prepare for our own divine destiny, glory, immortality, and eternal lives.”
