Janalee Meeker, an administrator at the Student Honor Office and today’s devotional speaker, invited devotional listeners to find peace and confidence through the atonement of Jesus Christ.
One of the ways people can find peace and confidence, she said, is by accessing the power of the atonement of Jesus Christ. Meeker said accessing this power would not only provide redemption in people’s lives but understanding as well.
“We often focus on the redemptive power of Jesus Christ, but in those tender experiences, when we feel His love, His comfort and His understanding, it is His enabling power that we access and utilize most often,” she said in her devotional talk.
Meeker shared a list of ways listeners could access this power. One of these ways was to “be sincere and focused in study and prayer,” something that hit close to home with Meeker.
She shared an experience she had with prayer when she was a young parent.
Her husband was serving as a bishop in their ward and working on his Ph.D. while she was finishing her master's degree. They were also raising their young children at the same time.
Meeker said she would often stay up late and wake up early, praying for efficiency every time she opened her laptop to complete schoolwork.
“Do you think Heavenly Father wanted us to succeed? He did! And He blessed me with the gift of good health, with the gift of gratitude, with a patient and understanding family, and the gift of efficiency. And, through His enabling power, He will bless you too,” she said.
In an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio, Meeker said her relationship with Jesus Christ has evolved.
She said everyone builds their relationship with Christ differently, and encouraged listeners to find how they could each build their relationship with Him and access the power of His atonement.
In an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio, Meeker also invited listeners to grow their relationship with Jesus Christ through personal study.
“You just have to start by doing those things that allow Him into your life,” she said. “Listen to His voice, get to know His voice and how that works for you. And then, trust those impressions as they come and practice. And over time, just like anything else, you develop that relationship. You gain that confidence through practice.”
