Waiting for the answers we want is difficult, but the Lord uses these times to help us grow. That was Sister Craig’s message to BYU-Idaho devotional listeners today.

She shared that we can find hope in the Savior during these difficult times and trust that He has a plan for each of us.

“I think we all have those waiting periods. They’re times when the Lord can work on our hearts. And if we trust Him and trust that we worship a God who loves us and He wants to give us every good thing… everything is going to be okay,” Sister Craig said in an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio.

She shared a story in her devotional message about when the BYU Women’s Cross Country team had to wait to compete after their season was canceled in the spring of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The coaches and athletes were frustrated. They had prepared for years to compete at this level– now it appeared all opportunity was lost. It seemed as if all they could do was wait,” Sister Craig said in her talk.

Head Women’s Cross Country Coach Diljeet Taylor told the athletes to “win the wait”.

The team then continued to train diligently, instead of withdrawing from the training schedule. The athletes had prepared to compete and were ready to race when the gathering restrictions were lifted.

The team went on to win first place in the NCAA National Championship in 2021.

Sister Craig said that although the wait may be difficult, it could be a “miracle in the making”. She shared in the interview that in these periods of waiting are sometimes when the Lord is working on our hearts.

Sister Craig opened up about wanting to have more children, but receiving the answer that it was not the Lord’s plan for her at that time.

“That was a righteous desire. I thought ‘why is that not being answered?’ But, as the years have gone by… I’ve seen how the Lord has blessed me and how he’s been with me the whole time. I’ve had opportunities and blessings that perhaps I wouldn’t have had otherwise,” she said in the interview.

When asked what she hoped listeners would remember from her devotional message, Sister Craig said she wanted the listeners to increase their desire to have faith in Jesus Christ so that they too could have hope in the midst of an unexpected outcome.
