The non-profit Community Recovery Center, Center for Hope Teaches a QPR Training class where you can learn the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond.

“I didn’t realize how powerful it would be until i took the course and after going through the training, I feel much more equipped and knowledgeable about recognizing signs of general concern in others,” said Jimmy Bicking, an attendee at a previous QPR training class.

QPR stands for question, persuade and refer. Those who receive this training learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide and how to question, persuade and refer the person to get help.

“Individuals realize they don’t need to have a professional counselor's degree or a certification … anybody can make a real difference in someone’s life,” Bicking said. “A lot of times it’s simply asking someone how you are doing today?”

According to Bicking, a big challenge is spreading awareness about these trainings, but that continued training can educate and spread knowledge about suicide prevention.

The training is free and will take place at Madison Memorial Hospital in the Grand Teton North Conference room from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. tonight.
