BYU-Idaho has welcomed many nationally recognized artists for on-campus performances in semesters past. This semester is no exception.

“The President’s Own” United States Marine Band is coming to visit the BYU-Idaho campus on Wednesday.

The band will perform patriotic music as well as movie scores from composers like John Williams.

BYU-Idaho Director of Bands David Faires said the event will be an opportunity for the whole community to come together.

“I was a student here many years ago and I know community members as well that are very accustomed to amazing performances happening from time to time, and so we have a lot of memories in this,” Faires said.

The band was founded under former President John Adams in 1798, meaning that every president of the United States besides George Washington has heard the band’s music.

Some of the nation’s best musicians are in the band. Faires said the band visiting BYU-Idaho is a huge deal, comparing the band’s importance to that of the Chicago Symphony or the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.

“In order to get in those groups, you need to be one of the top musicians on your instrument in the world, really. They auditioned for the very top orchestras and bands, and they’re all in one room. They’re all in one band. We’re going to hear them all at once. It’s very, very exciting,” Faires said.

The band will perform in the BYU-Idaho Center on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are free, but those who attend still must reserve tickets if they want to guarantee a spot at the concert.

To access these tickets, visit the university’s online ticket office at BYU-Idaho Ticket Office.

For those who do not reserve tickets, a standby line will open 15 minutes before the concert starts.
