On the latest episode of BYU-Idaho Radio’s The Spot, this week’s topic is sports. The hosts, Austin Pace, Maiya Waddell and Chandler Guadagnin jump into several sports related topics.
Right off the bat, the hosts discuss college athletes. They bring up how some college athletes make millions each year because of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals they have with schools. The hosts expressed that they would love to have NIL deals in order to live comfortably after college. Most of the hosts were also interested in other aspects of NIL deals, such as paid-for education and potential career options following a college athlete’s graduation.
The hosts discussed sports movies, including Remember the Titans, Field of Dreams and When the Game Stands Tall.
This is always a controversial subject, who is the GOAT (greatest of all time) of professional football, baseball and basketball. They discussed players like Barry Bonds, LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Tom Brady. They discussed how bad sportsmanship can take away from a player’s potential to be considered the GOAT.
Finally, our hosts discussed injuries. They reflected on the nature of injuries in the context of sports, where a single serious injury can end a player’s career decades early.
