Essential to every academic, creative or occupational pursuit is the ability to communicate, and to do it well. The Practice Presentation Center (PPC) aims to help both students and faculty know how to better present themselves and their message, no matter the reason. In conjunction with that goal the PPC will host a TED talk-style speaking event called I-Talks.
“Student led public speaking sharing their insights, and their stories and their experiences to BYU-Idaho,” says Alli Whiting, a PPC tutor who is helping organize the event.
I-Talks will feature four student speakers from various majors speaking on a variety of topics. Students who attend the event will also hear from keynote speaker Dr. Peter Carmack of the Humanities and Philosophy Department at BYU-Idaho.
“Peter Carmack is a very valuable individual not only does he have a PhD from the University of Leeds in philosophy, but has multiple master’s degrees in philosophy, and then he has an undergraduate from BYU-Idaho, so he’s alumni from this university, which is inspiring to students here,” says Easton Lambson, the events coordinator at the PPC.
Dr. Carmack has excelled not only in his academic career, but in his occupational pursuits as well.
“He’s a CEO of multiple companies, he’s worked in sales, he’s worked in finance. He’s currently working in entertainment to do a variety of things with screenwriting. So, he’s a very unique individual with a lot to offer the students,” Lambson says.
All participating students have auditioned and prepared to ensure this will be a remarkable event. I-Talk is on March 28 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. in the Manwaring Center’s Little Theater, room 372A.
“These speakers are auditioning, and trying out, and they’re going to be chosen and have impactful, worth listening to, messages that you might need to hear,” Whiting says.
