Elder Kevin G. Brown, a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spoke at BYU-Idaho for Tuesday’s devotional.

Elder Brown’s talk centered around the importance of hastening God’s work and seeing one’s own potential for great things. In his devotional address Elder Brown cautioned students to avoid letting the adversary deceive them and encouraged them to limit his access to them.

“He is cunning, but he is ignorant,” Elder Brown said. “If you limit his access, you limit his power. That with the help of the Lord, you can render him powerless.”

Elder Brown said the work needed on Earth is possible when individuals see their worth and understand that God loves them.

“I hope they don’t think the Lord cares more about the restoration of the gospel than the restoration of them,” Elder Brown said in a BYU-Idaho Radio interview. “The Church is made up of people. The Lord is not more concerned about how many temples are built as He is concerned about the covenant relationship with every individual who walks inside the temple.”

Elder Brown also shared the importance of facing challenges and the unknown with confidence in Christ.

“We are going to face challenges in the future, but with the confidence that we have in the Lord, whatever comes, you just feel a greater sense that just maybe I can navigate, that I can do that,” Elder Brown said. “It’s hard for you to plan for something you don’t know. So, you need divine help.”
