When Brian Howard reflects on his career, some of the most notable moments include sharing the stories of athletes, authors, leaders and more on “Latter-day Profiles,” a faith-based television talk-show reflecting the faith of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“Latter-day Profiles” began its 50th season on Sunday on BYUtv.
The show has featured several well-known guests in the past, such as BYU-Idaho President Alvin F. Meredith III and Jennifer Meredith and Piano Guys member and cellist Steven Sharp Nelson.
This season, Howard was able to interview film director T.C. Christensen about Christensen’s new film, “Escape from Germany,” which depicts the true story of missionaries serving in Germany at the start of World War II.
Howard also traveled to France with BYU-Idaho students for some of the episodes. BYU-Idaho students help produce the show, coordinating with Howard and other members of the faculty and staff.
Howard said that many students have expanded their career opportunities because of the show.
“A lot of them, especially the ones who help in the producing side, contacting people, that really helps them in their PR or other type of careers, but specifically video production. We have quite a few who’ve gone on to do some pretty cool things,” he said.
These “cool things” include shooting video for the military and helping produce documentaries.
Howard said the two purposes of the show are to help students develop professionally and to spread uplifting stories.
“I think a lot of the time, there’s a lot of bad news around and it’s nice to see people trying to do their best, doing good things, sometimes completely unknown to anybody else. But then we can share their stories and maybe inspire somebody to help uplift their life a little bit,” Howard said.
