On Tuesday in the BYU-Idaho Center Sister Cindy Goodwill, BYU-Idaho’s worldwide online curriculum and instruction director encouraged students to invest time in their education and time at BYU-Idaho.
In her devotional address, Sister Goodwill shared a scripture from Doctrine and Covenants 4:2, a scripture often sheared with missionaries before leaving for there mission.
“We often bring this scripture out to share with missionaries when they leave for their mission – but it applies to you, too,’ Sister Goodwill said. “When we seek an education, you are serving God. You are preparing to serve Him for your entire life.”
Before delivering her devotional, Sister Goodwill spoke with BYU-Idaho Radio about the inspiration and preparation behind her address. She said that if students make and effort to put in the effort to study they would grow closer to their Savior and Heavenly Father.
“I feel like learning is a lifetime thing,” Sister Goodwill said. “I love to read books and listen to podcasts and learn because I feel like I learned just a little bit more and a little bit more and I feel that’s bringing me closer to my Heavenly Father. I mean Heavenly father knows everything and I want to be more like Him.”
Sister Goodwill wanted to incorporate her own point of view as BYU-Idaho’s worldwide online curriculum and instruction director and share why she has a passion in student education.
“They’re spending money and time here at BYU-Idaho, and we want it to be as effective as possible,” Sister Goodwill said. “We want them to remember the things that they learn, to go out and get a job and be able to really contribute to society but be able to remember the things that they learned there and have them stick in their heads.”
Sister Goodwill said a conference address from Sister Linda Reeves inspired her. In the address Sister Reeves said that when people all get to the other side, they will look at God and say, “Was that it?” Sister Goodwill said the trials here and the things we go through are not bad compared to the rewards we will have on the other side.
“We can face all of our trials with courage and with faith, knowing that we’re serving God and that we’re going to be blessed,” Sister Goodwill said. “And it’s really not going to be as bad as we thought it was in the end.”
