REXBURG—With the arrival of another semester, BYU-Idaho will host I-Night as an opportunity for students new and returning to form new connections, have a fun time and break ice as students prepare for the new season.
I-Night functions as the ‘welcome to campus’ for Student Activities, and one events coordinator says this event will show students a few things the university offers during the semester.
“So lots of the events and different things you’ll see going on are actually things that you’ll see throughout the semester.”
Kobee Hall, the Campus Life events coordinator in charge of planning large portions of I-Night this semester, says I-Night will give students the big-picture idea of all the fun things and experiences that BYU-Idaho has to offer.
She says there’ll be more than a few things to do, offering entertainment for individuals and groups of different backgrounds.
“No matter if you’re like a sports sporty person and want to go like run around a bouncy castle or like dance your—dance the night away, there’s also craft thingies and there’s vision boards,” Hall said. “So there really is something for everybody no matter what, like your specific, like where you kind of what you want to do.”
Previously, the event was very much focused on providing a novel experience for freshman, but this semester Hall says anyone can attend and have a good time. She says the purpose of this event is to get people excited for the semester.
“It can be hard, too. Like lots of people are here for the first time. Leaving family, leaving friends,” Hall said. “Maybe friends from past semesters have left. This is really just an opportunity for people to get to know each other, get to know the campus, and overall just have like, a really great experience here at BYU-Idaho, to kind of set the tone for the rest of their time here.”
The event is free, although Campus Life will be handing out wristbands to keep track of attendance.
The university will also try out something new at I-Night. Fast passes.
“If you’re coming to I-Night, expect there to be some lines, you’re not going to be able to just like run through everything,” Hall said. “So to kind of alleviate some of that traffic flow, we’ve introduced this fast pass that will get you to the front of the line at certain events.”
Fast passes are $5 a piece.
“So when you buy you’re fast pass, they’ll let you know which events that those cover, which ones you can get to the front of,” Hall said.
Hall invites every BYU-Idaho student to come out to I-Night to have a great time.
“Doesn’t matter how short your social battery is or how long it is, you can always come and have a good experience.”
I-Night is on campus tomorrow evening, and it runs from 7-10 p.m.
