REXBURG— Andrew Hyde was nearing the end of his first clinical rotation as a physical therapist at an outpatient clinic in Florida. With another year left of school and a long road of license exams, Hyde received an unbelievable offer from the owner of an outpatient clinic.
“’I want you to come work for me in my clinic. And after six months to a year, I want you to take over my other clinic and be the director there.’ This is a graduate student, and I received this offer, right?” Hyde said. “Again, just promises being fulfilled. I was in awe to have such an opportunity. That’s rare to have.”
Hyde is a BYU-Idaho graduate. He attributes much of his success to the Learning Model BYU-Idaho not only provided to him but to all of its students.
“I feel like BYU-Idaho helped me a lot to kind of start off letting me know that nothing is just intellectual, or nothing is just what we’re learning in the class,” he said. “There’s a spiritual application to everything. And what I also love is that BYU-Idaho helps us develop not just intellectually, but it also helps us develop those soft skills. And our soft skills, let’s just be honest about it, are the fruits of the Spirit.”
After studying at BYU-Idaho, Hyde took his talents to a clinic in Florida, which he ran and operated for 13 years. Hyde’s future was set, until he received a phone call from a retiring college professor asking him to fill his position here at BYU-Idaho.
“My wife and I talked about it and said, ‘Yeah, that’s a good idea.’ And as we went through the application process, it became more and more clear. And the reason why I became more and more clear is because all the miracles that were happening in our lives to make it happen, that this was the right thing,” Hyde said.
Hyde now works in the Department of Human Performance and Recreation teaching students who want to enter the same practice, and he loves what he does.
“No longer are these students having to cram something in their minds to remember, but now they just involve the Spirit who brings to remembrance everything that we need to know and that we need to recall,” Hyde said. “And it seals the deal and takes learning to the next level. It’s just a huge blessing to teach here, I love it.”
