The Power to Become Conference is set to be a night of inspiration and motivation as alumni come to speak with students and the community about how they can work toward their potential.
Steve Davis, the alumni engagement director at BYU-Idaho, says there are three messages the three guest speakers will touch on. Attendees will learn how to discover their passion, how to tell a story and how to network collectively.
Davis says a $7 ticket gets attendees more than just the great talks—they could win prizes and will be entertained.
"We’re going to have a dance show at the beginning. A little dance troupe is going to come in and fire up the stage with some dancing. And then we have some speakers. We’re going to play a couple of games, and then we’ll be entertained by Shaun Johnson at the end,” Davis said.
Davis says students have walked away from this event inspired to take action in their lives.
“We’ve heard students say it’s life changing, that it’s changed—given them motivation to really go after something that they were maybe hesitant to do before,” said Davis.
The university hosts the Power to Become event to provide students with steps they can take to push their careers forward in ways they may have not thought of before.
“For those who attend, particularly students, to walk away knowing that there’s some things they can do to really launch their career, find that great internship, be more committed to their program of study, and inspired to one day go out and be really successful in their line of work,” Davis said.
Davis encourages students to know they can fulfill the goals they have.
“To just know that they can go out and they can make it to Wall Street. You can go into space for NASA, which we’ve had one of our speakers do. You can be a flight surgeon for NASA. You know, you can be successful,” Davis said.
Davis says the university finds alumni to speak who reflect former-President Henry B. Eyring’s promise of how BYU-Idaho graduates will become legendary. They are successful in their field, are active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and represent what BYU-Idaho stands for.
“My favorite part is just seeing the light come on a student’s eyes. You know, I’m sitting in the audience and I’m watching them take notes,” Davis said.
Power to Become is from 7-9 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium.
Tickets are $7 for students and $10 for the community. They are available in person or online here.
