It’s football season!
BYU-Idaho is celebrating by bringing its full-contact intramural football program to the fall semester.
The True Blue Bowl will take place this Saturday as the first game of the season. It’s a showdown that students won’t want to miss.
“We’re trying to build that competitive football environment and atmosphere, which we have the opportunity to do on a campus like this,” said Josh Thompson, the student coordinator over the intramural football program for BYU-Idaho. “It’s going to be big, it’s going to be fun. There’s a lot of opportunities to be involved and help out as well, so it’s exciting.”
BYU-Idaho is bringing full-contact football back to the fall semester for what some might say, ‘obvious reasons.’
“Fall is football season,” Thompson said. “College football, NFL, people hear about football, and they want to be a part of it. We have more numbers as well. We have a lot of freshman and new people that want to play on the teams and come participate.”
A big focus of the game this weekend is to remember football’s part in the university’s history.
“We want to tap a little bit into our roots and where we came from,” Thompson said. “A lot of people have connections to Rick’s College football, so we want to bring that kind of energy to BYU-Idaho.”
Everyone who comes to the game will be given a free raffle ticket to be entered into a giveaway, and there will even be vendors and a field goal contest at halftime.
Thompson says it’ll be a great time for everyone in attendance.
“It’s exciting, it’s something new,” Thompson said. “We want as much participation as possible. It’s going to be fun football. It’s going to be a really good game. We have a lot of good players and coaches.”
Kick-off for the game is at 2 p.m. at the stadium field across from Northpoint and the Cedars apartments. Students are encouraged to wear blue, and it’s free for all who come.
