From oil paintings and pottery to needle felting and animation, to photography and sculpture, the Art Faculty Show in the Spori Art Gallery has a variety of mediums on display.

“It’s an eclectic collection every time we do the faculty show,” said Kyoung DaBell, the art curator for the Spori Art Gallery.

The exhibit features the art of 18 faculty members spread throughout the gallery, which includes the second-floor mezzanine.

As viewers walk into the gallery, they’ll see three charcoal drawings. But immediately to the right and left, flashing lights will catch their eyes. On the right is a modern zoetrope. Faculty member Tim Howe 3D printed 20 models of a man running and placed them on a wheel. When the wheel spins and lights up, it looks like the man is actually running. On the left, on a similar wheel, is a series of water lilies opening to full bloom.

As the viewer moves past these pieces, they’ll see stringed instruments – an electric guitar, classical guitar, banjo – inlaid with mother-of-pearl, oil paintings, photography, graphic design and so much more.

“Something fun about this exhibit, for our students who take their classes, these are instructors who teach them the crafts,” DaBell said, “but then, when students come into the gallery, they actually see them living the crafts they are teaching.”

The free exhibit will open on Thursday at 7 p.m. with an artist reception, then will remain open through the end of the semester, July 24.
