In a night of competition and concertos, seven soloists will audition for the chance to perform solos in the BYU-Idaho Symphony Band Tour.
The audition is the final step and happens during this concerto concert performance. The community is invited to watch where they’ll hear Symphony Band students on percussion, brass and woodwinds. Two of the seven students will receive the solo spots and perform their solos during the band’s tour to Washington and British Columbia.
Symphony Band Artistic Director David Faires hopes the community will enjoy the talents of his students.
“These are the students that are in the symphony band are already our very top band students on campus and most of them are music majors who are practicing many hours a day and prefer preparing for different types of music careers, but each of these soloists have advanced as a result of really standing out having prepared a lot and worked on these different pieces that they'll be performing,” Faires said.
The concert is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall in the Snow Building on campus.
“There's a variety of instruments and so some people might like the saxophone and percussion and the flute and others might clarinet or trumpets and there's a variety and so it gives people kind of different samplings and the styles of the solos are all very different as well,” Faires said.
The concert is free, and no tickets are required. You can find more information on the tour at byui.edu/performance-tours.
