The Student Art Show in the Jacob Spori Building remains open through Tuesday.

The Student Art Show is showcasing art pieces and projects from hundreds of students' submissions.

“This opportunity gives students to not only compete for their artwork but also provide an opportunity to display their work,” said Kyoung Dabell, curator and designer of the Jacob Spori Art Gallery at BYU-Idaho. “So, this year we had a record-breaking submission of over 500 entries. Faculty juried them down about 153."

Dabell says the community has had a positive response to the art show.

“Overall, so many people will convey that the Student Art Show is their favorite out of all things that we feature in the art gallery. The people are actually looking forward to come view what students have created,” she said. “We've actually had many sales. The majority of them are for sale and they buy them."

Clara Wright, a senior majoring in graphic design, took first place in the Graphic Design category with her piece titled "Futura."

“I was pretty lucky. I actually have three pieces in the show,” Wright says. “I'm pretty sure there were about 70 graphic design submissions but, the fact that I got three pieces in was incredible, so they only accepted about 27% of each category."

Wright feels proud of the work she put into her winning pieces.

“It was fun, but it was a lot of work,” Wright says. “The piece came together so easily. I just had been learning so much and it all came together. Anyways, it was a great piece. I'm so proud of it and glad that I won."

The free Student Art Show runs through Tuesday. The gallery is open from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and is open to all ages.
