REXBURG—A BYU-Idaho student who is studying agricultural business, won first place in different competitions at the Professional Agricultural Student (PAS) Conference held in Springfield, Illinois.

The PAS Conference is a meeting place for colleges that aim to bridge education with employment opportunities for students. Kaitlynn Sorensen came out on top in both an individual and team competition.

She competed in agricultural sales where she crafted a sales pitch scenario centered around tulip bulbs and was part of the agricultural business management team with Dallin Hibbard and Haley Albertson. They made a presentation about how to improve farm financials based on a case study.

Reflecting on her journey to the conference, Sorensen credited her professor, Jeremy Slade, for introducing her to the PAS Society on campus.

"It was his encouragement that propelled me to participate… and I [am] very grateful I did,” she said.

Sorensen’s preparation for the competition involved a lot of planning and last-minute efforts.

“I had to conduct research, create brochures and design business cards … [all while juggling] other projects,” Sorensen said.

However, her efforts paid off as evidenced by her triumph at the conference.
