The sounds of strings, brass and singing will fill the air of the Barrus Concert Hall at the Faculty Music Performance. Faculty from the various music degree programs will showcase the instrument they teach and perform in a fun style rather than an educational one.
Tuba professor Matt Moore will play a duet with a bassoonist.
“It's a funny piece, because it's tuba and bassoon, they're kind of funny instruments not usually heard in a solo setting,” Moore said. “So, it's more supposed to be kind of a funny piece of music. This is going to be focused on entertaining music and not as serious. It'll be more fun than intellectual.”
The first concert of the winter semester, the Faculty Performance is a tradition to begin the semester’s concerts. It’s an opportunity for students to learn more about the BYU-Idaho Music Department and learn how to get involved whether they are music majors or not. Dr. Aaron Miller will perform a classical piece on the string bass. He hopes community members will also attend the concert.
“I would hope they would just enjoy the variety that they'll hear and maybe just gain a little bit more understanding and respect for what the faculty here on campus do,” Miller said. “It's a great celebration of music, of the students and the faculty here. And I think it's a good demonstration of how much the faculty love their students, but also of being able to perform and and interact with them in that way.”
The concert starts at 8 p.m. In the Barrus Concert Hall on Wednesday. The event is free, and no tickets are required.
“It is such a great celebration,” Miller said. “A fun time to be able to hear our colleagues play and be able to perform with each other. So that's what intrigues me about it and why I wanted to be part of it this semester.”
