As Spring semester progresses at BYU-Idaho, students and faculty are eager to take advantage of the warmer weather and of the various campus activities.

“I love fitness, and a couple of years ago, I started going to group fitness classes and I just got hooked,” said Malia White, the Fitness Activities student lead, in an interview with BYU-Idaho Radio.

As the student lead, White oversees a team of fitness instructors and together they coordinate various fitness classes and activities for students and faculty on campus. With options such as cross training, cycling, step, high fitness, yoga, Zumba, aerobics and so much more, there is such a wide range of classes to choose from. White also clarified that every class can be attended by people in any stage of their fitness journey, beginners and pros are equally welcomed.

White teaches some of these classes herself. Her interest in fitness started back in high school, and she was excited to become an instructor at BYU-Idaho. She encourages others to give it a try as well if they are interested in fitness and wellness.

“I love being here for three years and teaching. I have the same people who come to my fitness class at night. We have a little high fitness family,” she said.

One of the highlights in May is the fitness Bingo Challenge. When you go to a class, you will receive a bingo card, and every class you attend afterward, you will receive a stamp on the card. Once you get a bingo, you can turn in your card for a chance to win a big prize, and several prizes are being handed out.

This semester will also have a triathlon and a Fourth of July 5k.

White encourages anyone to give them a try. Anyone can try any of the class options, and White believes there really is an activity for everyone. She also says the instructors are all great at helping people, especially if they are first time participants. Attendees can move at their own pace if needed. White believes it is a rewarding experience and highly recommends it.

“It’s a really fun way to get involved on campus and meet people. It enhanced my experience at BYU-Idaho,” she said.
