Models strutting the catwalk, cameras flashing with every new design, who doesn’t love the thrill of a good fashion show? BYU-Idaho’s Apparel Design Society is ready to show the fruit of their labors this semester with the “Luna Maria” fashion show this Saturday.

This semester’s theme is a dazzling fusion of lunar landscapes and sparkling wonders, promising to be nothing short of amazing. The theme, Luna Maria, is in honor of the moon landing’s 55th anniversary, which will be on the same day as the show. Itavi Stearns, a long-time member of the group and now chairman of the committee, is ecstatic to share what the students have been working so hard on.

“It’s really cool to have these different students who want to work together in this group. We just want to design an amazing event for our students who are showcasing their work to future internship employees, professors and their family and friends,” Stearns said.

The show will have around 85 to 90 designers, all showcasing their wonderful creations in front of the audience. The show will also have a range of different clothing categories, from casual to black tie and even swimwear, all inspired by the moon and her beauty.

“We named it Luna Maria after the lunar Marias. Those are the craters on the moon that were made from water,” Stearns said. “We took in the theme related to the moon, the moon landing, as well as some elements of the ocean. We’re excited to see how students interpret this theme.”

Organizing this event is no small feat. Anais Campos, the Marketing Director for the Apparel Society, and her team faced many challenges. Being able to coordinate everything, getting everyone on board with the plan and then successfully pulling it off is quite the mission. But Campos has had a memorable time doing it.

“When it’s over, you get to see the fruits of your labor. The show comes together, everyone has a great time, and then we receive feedback so that we can improve the next show. It’s just knowing that you did a good job and that you’re able to make the next show event better,” Campos said.

The fashion show will be taking place this Saturday at the McKay Amphitheater. The show will start at 6:30 p.m. and food will be served. If you are interested in attending the fashion show, tickets are $6 on byui.edu/ticket-office or $7 at the door. Bringing an outdoor blanket in encouraged for the outdoor show.
