John C. Frémont is a name many have heard or seen in the West. We have Fremont County in Idaho, which also has North and South Fremont High Schools. Mountain peaks, streams, streets also bear his name. Students of history may know he was an explorer, but how much do we really know about him?

There is a new member of the family in the Idaho Falls Zoo who came all the way from the Phoenix Arizona Zoo. Tunda is a cotton-top tamarin which is the smallest species of monkey.

Madison High School’s annual event, Madison Presents, will have guest musicians Marvin Goldstein and Vanessa Joy. It’s happening tonight at 7:00 at the Madison Performing Arts Center.

Idaho’s cold winters make it a little harder to find activities to do with your families. Due to the cold weather the Idaho Falls Zoo closes its doors to keep its animals warm, but the zoo still opens its doors to its education classes, which means there are several opportunities to learn.

Barrie’s famous novel “Peter Pan” will be the focus of Madison Library District’s event called On the Same Page.

Madison Cares has free educational classes for those in the community. These classes can give you the necessary tools to know how to deal with your emotions, keep a budget and help those who struggle with mental illness.

Mountain lions have been on the prowl in Idaho, some were seen near Hailey and Ketchum and even attacked pet dogs. Regional communications manager for the Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Terry Thompson in the Magic Valley Region said they have currently received 43 reports of mountain lions, five of them being today, Jan. 7. These were also reports of dog attacks.

The body of a man found in 1979 in the Civil Defense Caves of Clark County now has a name: Joseph Henry Loveless.
