Music: Jazz Studies Emphasis (B.M.)

Department of Music
Through this degree, you will learn technical mastery and artistic depth through intensive lessons and frequent high-level performances. By graduation, you will be prepared to excel as a soloist, orchestral player, or collaborative artist.

The Jazz Studies Bachelor of Music degree is an opportunity to perform, compose, and develop a deeper understanding of Jazz and popular styles. Many of our students have gone on to receive graduate degrees with an end goal of teaching at a university, performing in a military band, running a private studio, or becoming a freelance musician. This degree includes the most music production courses of other music degrees, including how to capture and produce recordings.

With this degree, you can follow your dreams of studying music and focusing on jazz. Not only will you study the specifics of jazz methods, history, and composition, you will also become more proficient in your specific instrument. You will improve many of your music capabilities and have fun while doing it!

The Bachelor of Music in Education (BMED) is a professional degree designed to prepare students for a music teaching career specializing in orchestra, choir, or band. Students will prepare to qualify for a K-12 teaching certificate. Students are given opportunities to teach in local schools, including a full semester of student teaching as the capstone experience.
