Public Health - Health Education and Promotion (B.S.)

While a physician looks after a single patient, a public health educator looks after entire cities. These professionals work as a connection between clinical data and community wellness. Instead of reacting to illness after it occurs, they specialize in the proactive "upstream" work: preventing disease, advocating for health-conscious policy, and fostering environments where healthy choices are the easiest choices to make.

Public health can help improve the health of communities, but not all public health degrees give you the same experience. At BYU-Idaho, the two emphases under the Bachelor of Science in Public Health are Health Science and Health Education and Promotion.

Preventing illness before it occurs is the central goal of public health. Professionals in public health education and health promotion focus on informing and protecting communities rather than treating illness after it occurs. Instead of working one-on-one with patients, they work at the community level to improve overall health outcomes.
