Job Description
Essential Functions
* Designing and Creating On-Air Graphics
· Design and create on-air graphics, including over 4,000 shells/templates, and manage their organization, backgrounds, databases, custom interfaces, etc.
· Coordinate the creation of all other graphic production elements for live events.

· Design and create on-air graphics, including over 4,000 shells/templates, and manage their organization, backgrounds, databases, custom interfaces, etc.
· Coordinate the creation of all other graphic production elements for live events.
· Assist in designing, deployment and maintenance of all graphic elements for all live events.
Create packages in Vizrt systems based on producer needs.
Generate database files for producer-created content to be parsed and populate appropriate template iterations.
Write software for controlling graphic engines, primarily for score bugs but also any other show requiring it.
Provide on-call response for problems, bugs, or technical issues that on-site staff cannot resolve.
· Identify and produce necessary raw elements for live events, including those from live graphics systems and playback systems (delivering pre-rendered motion graphics).
· Collaborate with producers from other departments to ensure the proper display and implementation of the "brand" of BYU TV programs is in all live applications.
Coordination with Area and Department Management
· Represent the graphics department in interactions with other BYUB departments, such as Production, Sports, Engineering, Creative Services, Marketing, and any cross-department task force when necessary.
· Attend planning, coordination, pre-production, and postmortem meetings associated with relevant projects.
Coordinating Staff and Managing Graphics Production on Live Events
· Manage and supervise operators, including full-time, part-time, contractors, and student staff, responsible for operating specialized equipment and crew positions, such as Trio operators, Score-bug operators, Libero operators (advanced telestration), Arena operators (augmented graphics for 1st & 10 line, etc.) and other support staff.
· Hire contract employees when needed and defining the scope of their job functions and responsibilities.
· Supervise the training and scheduling of student and/or freelance operators to operate equipment during live production events. Troubleshoot system malfunctions, address data feed issues and resolve software bugs.
· Maintain expertise in all hardware and software related to the Vizrt real-time graphics equipment.
· Ensure that all graphic elements are prepped and ready for air before each event.
· Organize and archive all files and media related to each event, ensuring that media is readily available and accessible to the production team.
Mentoring and Training
· Interview and hire prospective student employees with the required interest/capabilities for working within the live graphics team.
· Conduct ongoing training of student graphic operators for all live events on various equipment.
· Develop and maintain a pool of qualified operators.
· May also provide supervision of other Post Production Graphics FTEs and their respective teams.
Requirements / Qualifications
Education/Experience
Minimum required:
A Bachelor's degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience with at least 3 years of full-time professional graphic production experience for live sports broadcasting, such as ESPN, CBS, HBO, or FOX sports
Preferred:
Over 5 years of experience in live sports graphic design and production for ESPN.
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
Required:
Knowledge of data extraction from scoring systems is also important.
Experience with live sports graphic production is a must, as well as expert knowledge of how to display sports statistics.
Previous experience in designing professional 'sports graphic packages.
Preferred:
Expert level Vizrt designer and operator.
Comfortable writing scripts to enhance functionality of the graphics systems. Knowledge of live graphic systems such a VizRT, Chryon, or Ross Expression.
Knowledge of Visual Basic scripting and experience in software development utilizing existing REST API or similar technology.
