Farm Labor and Equipment Operator
Job Description
This job includes work on a sod farm as well as a cattle and crop operation. Spring time work will include feeding, breeding, branding and vaccinating cattle. It will also include the beginning of sod harvesting season. Your duties would be as follows: operating a tractor to mow, aerate, harrowing, and shuttle pallets of sod out of the field as well as assist the harvester in cutting sod, cleaning up scraps, and repairs and maintenance on all equipment. These duties will last all summer and into the fall. During summer months you will also be watching over the cow herd including fixing fence, supplying salt and mineral, checking on herd health, feed supply, and rotating pastures. There will also be some flood irrigating involved. In the fall and winter we will transition the cattle back home and begin vaccinating, sorting, feeding, calving, and maintaining facilities.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Must have experience operating tractors with implements, tractors with loaders, forklifts, skidsteer, atvs, and trucks with trailers.
- Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to the farm, which is about 10 minutes from campus.
- This is a drug and alcohol free work place.
- Must be able to follow directions and pay attention to detail.
- Must be motivated and have the ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
