Elder Brockbank Opening Closing

The Japan World Exposition (JWE) Osaka 1970 set 2 records. 77 countries participated and the total attendance exceeded 64,000,000. I originally expected 30,000,000.

Theme “Progress and Harmony for Mankind.”

March 14, 1970- opening day

On opening day 77 participating countries displaying their flags, set a new record for world expositions.

The site was chilly & lightly coated with fresh, sparkling snow. At precisely 11:00 A.M. the solemn ceremony opened the JWE. After the opening speech delivered by His Majesty the Crown Prince, thousands of cranes, symbol of peace, showered down on the Plaza.

Visitors from all walks of life around the world visited Expo 70.

Sept. 13, 1970- closing day

183 days a world met & ____ in the Senri Hills in the spirit of cooperation and peace. 11:00 A.M. closing ceremony started. Festivities continued into the night. As the final moments drew near, the manager and workers of each pavilion formed lines at the exit and motioned goodbye to the last minute visitors.
