Biography
Sharon Duque fell in love with art history as a freshman design major at BYU. After marrying her husband, Lary Duque, Sharon transferred to the University of California, Davis as an art history major and received her BA and MA degrees there. She currently heads the art history curriculum at BYU-Idaho and teaches courses in Medieval Art, Baroque Art, Nineteenth-Century Art, and Modern and Contemporary Art, along with the survey courses Art History I and Art History II. Her latest research focuses on typology in art, or the study of how depictions of Old Testament figures symbolize the life and character of Jesus Christ. Watching her students make personal connections to masterpieces of the past brings her great joy.
Sharon and her husband Lary have 4 grown children and live in St. Anthony on Henry’s Fork of the Snake River, where she loves to kayak and watch the wildlife. She also enjoys tennis, hiking, cross-country skiing, gardening, and visiting art museums across the world.
