Bio

Matt Dixon began teaching healthcare administration at BYU Idaho in 2016. Prior to this, Matt spent 13 years as an executive with HCA Healthcare, the largest for-profit hospital operator in the United States. At HCA, Matt led the development and opening of a new hospital in Pearland, Texas, as the Chief Executive Officer of Pearland Medical Center. Under Matt’s leadership, Pearland Medical Center was recognized as one of HCA Healthcare’s highest performing hospitals in the delivery of clinical care, and employee and patient satisfaction. 

Preceding his appointment at Pearland Medical Center, Matt was the Chief Operating Officer of St. Mark’s Hospital, a 315-bed tertiary level hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. During his 7-year tenure as COO, Matt oversaw the expansion of St. Mark’s services in the areas of outpatient imaging, satellite emergency services, primary care, bariatric surgery, inpatient rehabilitation, and behavioral health.

Matt also held the position of Associate Administrator at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah.

Matt holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business and is a certified Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. After graduating as the valedictorian of the David M. Kennedy Center for International Studies at Brigham Young University, Matt worked in finance and international development prior to his graduate studies.  Matt is also a graduate of Ricks College, where he competed on the school’s varsity cross-county and track and field teams.

Matt was raised on his family’s farm in Jerome, Idaho and served a mission in Fresno, California. He and his wife, Anna, were married in 1996 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They are the parents of four children. 

Matt loves fly fishing, hiking, backpacking, outdoor work, international travel, his wife, his kids, and a good joke.
