Josh Hobbs grew up in Franklin, Idaho, and tried a variety of degrees and career paths in college. It wasn’t until a week into his first studio art class at BYU-I (ART 110- Drawing I) that he knew he wanted to pursue his love of art.
Josh has taught art at both middle and high school levels for 6 years in public schools in Utah and Idaho. Additionally, he taught online courses at BYU-I before being hired to teach full-time in 2019. When asked what influenced him to teach here at BYU-I, Josh stated that his experience here as an undergrad changed my life. Josh loves both teaching and art, and he hopes to be a positive influence to others in a way that so many of the faculty were for him.
Some of the factors that influence Josh’s artwork include life experiences, other artists, family, art education research, and nature. His advice for students studying art is the following: "You need to embrace that you are an artist now. Start working and thinking like an artist today, because you are one."
Finally, one fun fact about Josh Hobbs is that his artwork is hanging up at the very end of the school hall in the movie Napoleon Dynamite- but it's too blurry to see, so we have to take his word for it!
