Interests

I am interested in my 6’8” bearded Canadian husband and our five wild children. Most of my free time is spent with my family, I love being a mom and all that comes with it. I enjoy working and playing with my family. I love to get firewood to burn in our woodstove. I try to do a triathlon each year. I like to travel and will always take a Frisbee with me wherever I go. (I prefer Alaska to Hawaii.) For my birthday I always want to float the river and when it is cold I like to cross country ski, even if it is just in my backyard.

Biography

I have always enjoyed mathematics, it has not always been easy but it has been fun. In high school I took extra math classes as electives. As an undergrad I selected math as my major and I planned on doing something with applied math. During my last semester I needed one more math class and the only one that was available was a capstone math education class, because of that class I fell in love with the idea of teaching math.  I have struggled through some math classes, and this was one of the strengths that I think I bring to the math class room. I know what it feels like to be confused and to have to put in the extra work to understand the concepts. My graduate work included creating technology enhanced lesson plans for secondary mathematics education and research in the area of example generation in the calculus classroom. I love sharing with students my love for math. Most often my classroom is busy with students at the board working together to figure out new concepts and practice skills.
