Gary Baird graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in botany and a master's degree in botany and plant systematics. In then earned a doctorate degree in botany and plant systematics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Baird was a lecturer and assistant professor at the University of Texas at Austin, Southwestern University, and Brigham Young University, before he joined the faculty in the Department of Applied Plant Science at BYU-Idaho in 2011. In addition to teaching students, he also serves as curator over the university's herbarium.
