A native of Provo, Utah, Alicia Duncan McQuay made her professional orchestral debut to great critical acclaim at the age of 17 as harp soloist performing with the Utah Symphony under the direction of Keith Lockhart. Born into a musical family, Alicia began studying harp at the age of 4 and has since appeared in concert as soloist, chamber musician, and symphony harpist throughout the United States.
Alicia McQuay holds the degree Doctor of Music in Harp Performance and Literature from the world renowned Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University where she was a student of Susann McDonald. A dedicated and passionate teacher, she served as Professor McDonald's teaching assistant and also was a harp instructor on the faculty of the Pre-College Harp Program. Her students have been prize-winners in prestigious harp competitions and are frequently admitted to top harp performance programs across the country.
Alicia holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Brigham Young University School of Music where she studied with ShruDeLi Ownbey and Louise Vickerman and a Master of Music degree from Indiana University.
In 2014 Alicia was appointed as principal harpist of the Idaho Fall Symphony and continues to enjoy an active performance career. Alicia is currently Professor of Music (Harp) at Brigham Young University-Idaho where she is the director of the harp performance program.
