AMERICAN VIOLINIST WILLIAM HAGEN TO PERFORM WITH THE BYU-IDAHO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA ON OCTOBER 28
The BYU-Idaho Department of Music is pleased to welcome William Hagen – “a standout” among brilliant young violinists – to perform the Sibelius Violin Concerto with the Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:30pm in the Barrus Concert Hall. The evening’s program also includes the world-famous orchestral suite, The Planets, by Gustav Holst.
Tickets are $8 / $5 for students and available through the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office. Event dress is requested.
The Violin Concerto in D minor by Finnish composer, Jean Sibelius, is considered one of the most deeply beautiful and technically demanding violin concertos in the classical repertoire. Holst’s The Planets is a seven-movement orchestral suite with each movement named after a celestial body and focused on its astrological character. Many believe The Planets shaped how space sounds in modern film scores.
William Hagen has performed as soloist, recitalist and chamber musician across the United States, Europe, Asia and Latin America. He maintains an active schedule on both sides of the Atlantic, making frequent trips to Europe and cities around the US to play a wide range of repertoire. In 2020, William released his debut album, “Danse Russe,” with his good friend and frequent collaborator, pianist Albert Cano Smit.
A native of Salt Lake City, William studied violin with Itzhak Perlman and Catherine Cho at the Juilliard School, Christian Tetzlaff at the Kronberg Academy, and was a longtime student of Robert Lipsett, at the Colburn Community School of Performing Arts and Colburn Conservatory of Music.
William performs on the 1732 “Arkwright Lady Rebecca Sylvan” Antonio Stradivari, and on a violin bow by Francois Xavier Tourte, both on generous loan from the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation.
