BYU-IDAHO SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS MUSIC OF DEBUSSY, WAGNER AND MARTIN ON JULY 14, FEATURING FACULTY SOLOIST AARON MILLER ON DOUBLE BASS Don’t miss the BYU-Idaho Symphony Orchestra on Tuesday, July 14 at 7:30pm in the Barrus Concert Hall, presenting an evening of lyrical, symphonic masterworks. BYU-Idaho faculty member, Dr. Aaron Miller, joins the chamber-sized orchestra as soloist on Andrés Martin Concerto No 1 for Double Bass. Dr. Robert Tueller directs the orchestra. Tickets are $8 / $5 for students and available through the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office. Event dress is recommended. The evening’s program opens with Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, a tender and intimate symphonic poem, followed by Concerto No. 1 for Double Bass. Composed in 2012 by Argentine composer Andrés Martín, it is considered a contemporary masterpiece and staple of the modern double bass repertoire, showcasing the lyrical potential of the instrument. The final work of the evening will be Claude Debussy’s beloved La Mer (The Sea), one of the definitive works of musical Impressionism. Dr. Aaron Miller, Director of Jazz Studies at BYU-Idaho, received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in double bass performance from Northwestern University. He enjoys working with collegiate bassists at BYU-Idaho, encouraging young musicians at the Red Lodge Music Festival, and instructing the next generation of jazz musicians in eastern Idaho.
This music performance is presented by the Department of Music at BYU-Idaho.
